Bumble Bee
She’s fuzzy and cute, with colorful stripes and hair all over her body, but don’t be fooled. The bumble bee can deliver a painful sting!
She likes to live underground, usually in old rodent burrows or other openings. Her colony is usually quite small, but if you disturb her nest, she’ll make a loud buzzing sound to make you think she’s got lots of angry friends.
A bumble bee can even be aggressive. She can chase her victims over long distances and might even sting them more than once!
Fascinating Facts
- Honey do. Bumble bees can make honey, but it’s not the kind we eat.
- What’s the buzz? Once a bumble bee has visited a flower, she marks it with her scent. This lets other bumble bees know that the flower belongs to her, at least until her scent wears off.
