Roof Rat
This non-native species was brought to the United States by early explorers. Although the roof rat has been in this country for hundreds of years, he remains limited to the Southeast, West Coast and some Northern port cities.
The roof rat can grow up to 14 inches long. You can recognize him by his large ears, pointed snout and long tail. In fact, his tail is usually longer than his body!
This rodent likes to nest in trees and other elevated locations. He’s an exceptional climber and a natural-born acrobat!
