Mosquito

This buzzing little insect is up to no good. She transmits deadly diseases such as yellow fever, malaria and dengue fever to millions of people around the world each year.

Like a tiny helicopter, the mosquito hovers about, with the ability to fly forward or backward.

There are more than 3,000 species of the mosquito worldwide, and more than 175 species have been discovered in North America.

  • Water, water everywhere. This tiny killer requires water to begin her life cycle. And, she can breed in as little as a few tablespoons of water!
  • Girl power. Only the female mosquito bites. She pierces your skin to suck out blood. This helps her make eggs.
