Riding a Roller Coaster

Wednesday March 30 2011

Busch Gardens, a huge amusement part here in Tampa, is located right down the street from the museum I’m staying in – the Museum of Science and Industry.

Our friends who are looking after us here in the museum have been telling us how much fun it is to go to the park, but I must admit, I had my doubts for a the longest time. Bugs like me are afraid of heights because we’re so small. Even if I fell only a few feet it would really hurt because of the way my body is constructed. Imagine a human being falling off a tall building or out of an airplane. Wouldn't that hurt? Now you understand how scary it is for me when I climb to the top of a tall roller coaster!

Most of my friends here are arthropods, and they have exoskeletons (that means that their bones are on the outside of their body rather than inside.) Even with a hard surface instead of soft skin, they don’t feel too good after they fall and hit the ground, so it took a lot of courage to get us to go on those tall, fast rides! We faced our fears and actually wound up having a lot of fun. I got some cotton candy and took it back to Miley – she was too afraid to come with us.
