Harry Yells “Surprise!”
The hardest part about planning a surprise party is not ruining the surprise. Just last week, all the bugs here at the Insectarium decided to plan a surprise shindig for Woody the Termite’s birthday.
For a whole week I had to remember not to say anything that would give away the surprise. It was hard! I almost gave it away every time I opened my big mouth. Luckily, I had Paw Paw the Hissing Cockroach plan the party with me. The last thing I wanted to do was make him mad enough to hiss at me.
On the big day, Woody was totally surprised. It was so worth all the waiting. When Woody walked in the room, we turned on the lights and bugs appeared everywhere. SURPRISE! Woody almost fell over because he was so shocked.
Then we played pin the tail on the donkey and twister and brought out a piñata. Woody loves to eat things with cellulose, like wood, paper and cardboard. So he ate the actual piñata and gave the candy from inside to everyone else.
We also made two cakes. The termites’ cake was made of cardboard and woodchips. It didn’t look good to me, but Woody loved it. The other cake was made of regular sugar and flour. That’s my kind of cake!
So, all in all, a surprise party might actually be more fun than a regular party. But don’t sneak up and surprise me. I might totally freak out and scream like a girl.
