Harry Sings Karaoke
Usually the bugs here at the Insectarium like to keep after-hours activities kind of quiet. After performing for visitors all day, most of us like to relax, watch some TV or read a good book. Of course, every now and again, everybody wants to cut loose.
And by “cut loose,” I really mean “get loud.”
So every once in a while we get crazy and have our own Insectarium karaoke night. Everybody picks out their favorite songs and then sings for everyone else.
Last night, Cuddles the Scorpion started things off with a bang. He sang “Rock You Like a Hurricane,” by his favorite band (the Scorpions, of course). It was intense. Then Paw Paw the Hissing Cockroach sang some really old opera song that no one had ever heard of. But it was nice and everyone clapped to cheer him on. Skimmer the Dragonfly sang a Jimi Hendrix song called “Spanish Castle Magic.” It has a cool line about dragonflies and she says it’s her theme song.
Then it was my turn. Honestly, I’m not the best singer. So what I do is try to make people laugh by doing a goofy dance or something. This time I made everyone laugh because I totally forgot half of the words to the Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine.”
I used to be shy about singing in front of people, but when you’re all friends, everyone gets a standing ovation—even if everybody’s laughing.
