Harry Sees the Zulu King
It all started with King Cake. I was talking to Woody the termite, who is an expert on Cajun cuisine. He let me know that you can’t eat King Cake after Mardi Gras is over. You have to wait until next January!
So I decided to eat as much King Cake as I could on Monday. And I made myself sick. Because of that, I almost missed all of the Lundi Gras celebrations. Lundi Gras is the Monday before Fat Tuesday—so it’s the day before Mardi Gras is completely over.
When I finished that last King Cake, I was on a real carbo-loaded sugar high. So I stumbled out of the Insectarium and went for a walk through Woldenberg Park. To my surprise, there were tons of people watching a strange looking man on a boat. He had a really crazy outfit with feathers everywhere.
Then I remembered that this was a celebration where Rex, the King of Carnival meets someone called the Zulu King. The man on the boat must have been the Zulu King. People were really excited to see him traveling down the Mississippi River.
After he got out of the boat, his friends threw out sparkly, decorated coconuts to people. I was afraid I would get hit by one, but the crowd caught all of them before they got anywhere near me.
Now I need to get some rest and get ready for Fat Tuesday. I’ll tell you all about it after it’s over!
