Harry Isn’t Bored on the Fourth of July

Monday July 6 2009

This is my second year to celebrate America’s independence at the Audubon Insectarium. Just like last year, I’m all about the three F’s: fireworks, freedom and FOOD!

This year’s food lineup was full of gutbusters hot off the outdoor grill. There were hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue—followed up by flaky apple pie and unbelievable homemade ice cream.

After I’d eaten myself silly, I settled back in a lawn chair and took it easy with a big glass of lemonade. I watched some folks play Frisbee, but I wasn’t about to get too near one. If I ended up on top of a Frisbee, someone could launch me clear into another state!

Around dusk, it was time for some fireworks. As much as I like to watch fireworks, I make sure to stay pretty far away from them. They can be really dangerous! It’s a lot smarter to let an adult carefully set them up and light them. Then you can chillax like me and just enjoy the show.

All in all, it was an awesome 4th of July. I’ve read that other countries are pretty cool, but ultimately, this mantis thinks that America is the best place to live in the world.
