Harry is Excited for Thanksgiving

Wednesday November 11 2009

You know what makes me a little sad? Eating the last piece of my Halloween candy.

You know what makes me super excited again? Thinking about Thanksgiving food!

Don’t get me wrong, I love Halloween candy, but it doesn’t hold a candle to a big home-cooked meal like Thanksgiving. Just thinking about it makes me happy. There is a big turkey with dressing, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes with marshmallows and cornbread. Man, I love good cornbread.

But my absolute favoritest Thanksgiving treat is the banana-nut cake that my grandma Nanny always makes. It’s been my favorite ever since I was just a little mantis. Since I’m not home, my grandma Nanny said she’d send one to the Insectarium for me on Thanksgiving.

Honestly, I get so excited thinking about that banana-nut cake that I wish I could just go to sleep and wake up when it gets here. That might sound crazy, but a lot of my insect friends hibernate in the winter. Ladybugs look for warm places to sleep on the west sides of houses this time of year and sleep until winter is over.

I love a good, long nap. But I don’t hibernate. That’s not something praying mantids do.

Which is fine by me, because I’d hate to oversleep and miss Thanksgiving altogether! Or Christmas! No way! I’ll just have to wait patiently.
