Harry Bugs the Guards at Graceland

Monday April 5 2010

The other day I remembered that most of my friends at the Insectarium had never been to Graceland. Paw Paw the hissing cockroach and Esteban the Chilean rose-haired tarantula have been really wanting to go, since they are both huge fans of Elvis and of music in general. Since our exhibit is here in Memphis visiting the Children’s Museum until June 13, I decided we had to take a trip to the King’s home.

Once we got there, the fun began. Atlas the leafcutter ant, Paw Paw and I signed the gate with Paw Paw’s Sharpie. Next, Speedy the millipede got his picture taken on Elvis’ private plane. We were all having a great time until we got to the kitchen. The tour guide was explaining how Elvis loved to eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches, and I got distracted by hunger. Just then, Woody the termite took a bite out of an old wooden spoon lying on the counter. The tour guide saw Woody eating Elvis’ spoon and called for the guards! I had to fly around and distract the guards until we could get out of there and back to the museum. Wow, that was a close one. And I’m so hungry. Maybe I’ll make a peanut butter and banana sandwich.
