Harry Believes in Magic
I’ve never really been a big fan of the magicians I see on TV. It just doesn’t look all that impressive when I’m sitting at home.
A great thing about New Orleans is that you can see incredible street magicians doing their tricks live in the French Quarter. Let me tell you, that magic is WAY more impressive.
Just the other day, I was minding my own business, slipping out of the Insectarium for some fresh air. And a chili cheese dog. (Okay, two chili cheese dogs.) That’s when I saw the most incredible magician I’ve ever seen.
This fellow was truly amazing. There was a huge crowd gathered around him on the sidewalk. The first trick he performed was turning a handkerchief into a dove. It was neat. Then he turned it back into a handkerchief! I was totally blown away.
Next he performed some card tricks that had everyone clapping. He could guess any card you picked. I tried it. He totally guessed that it was the four of clubs. But my favorite was the last trick he did.
He stood back a bit and then he concentrated really hard… and then he levitated. Seriously, he rose off the ground and floated in mid-air.
Paw Paw the Hissing Cockroach tells me that’s the oldest trick in the book and it’s just an optical illusion. Even if that is true, it sure was magical to watch.
