Good night, sleep tight!

Friday April 15 2011

Has your mom or dad ever said to you “good night, sleep tight, and don’t let the bedbugs bite” before you go to sleep? That’s not just a saying or a nursery rhyme. Bedbugs are actual creatures that can live in your bed with you or near where you rest, and they actually come out to play at night when most of my human friends are fast asleep.

Insects are a lot of fun to play with when you visit us at the museum (if I do say so, myself,) and my relatives even have important jobs in the animal kingdom when they’re out living among nature. Bedbugs, on the other hand, are no fun at all when they live in your house. I’ve never cared for them, mainly because they sort of keep to themselves and don’t stay awake to play during the day when I can actually see them. Instead, they wake up late at night or early in the morning and bite people so they can stay alive. (A gross way to live, if you ask me.)

Sometimes, bedbugs will even come back home with you from hotels or other people’s houses, so it’s very important to check your bed for any sign of bugs if you stay somewhere new on vacation or if you sleep over at a friend’s house.
